The “MERGERA” guest house, located in the coastal village of Mērsrags on the western shore of the Gulf of Riga, introduced modern technological solutions last season to improve both the guest experience and day-to-day property management.
The “MERGERA” guest house is a popular accommodation choice for travellers along the European hiking route “Jūrtaka”, cycling tourists, and families with children. The guest house offers six fully equipped apartments, each featuring a kitchen area, a bathroom with a shower, and a separate toilet. Guests also have access to a spacious shared kitchen and dining area, which is occasionally used for celebrations and private events.
The property enjoys an excellent location — just around 300 metres from the sea, within walking distance of the centre of Mērsrags and its lighthouse, which visitors can climb during the warmer season.
The challenge: When traditional keys are no longer enough
From the very beginning, the owner of the guest house considered implementing a smart access system. However, due to budget considerations at the time, the decision was made to install conventional locking solutions with standard residential lock cylinders.
Over time, the busy summer season and constant high guest traffic began to take their toll. Frequent — and not always careful — use of the doors gradually caused wear and tear on the mechanical components. As a result, issues started to appear: keys became unreliable, guests occasionally struggled to unlock doors, and regular maintenance as well as cylinder replacements became increasingly necessary.
The solution: VOYAGER CITY Smart handles
As smart access solutions have become more accessible both technologically and financially, the owners of the guest house decided to equip all six apartments with VOYAGER CITY smart handles by JNF, allowing guests to access their accommodation without the need for physical keys.
How does it work?
- Guests collect their access fob from a lockbox mounted on the exterior wall of the building
- Apartment access is granted with a single tap
- During housekeeping, the owners use Mifare key cards
- If guests accidentally leave the access fob inside the apartment, the owners can unlock the door remotely using a smartphone
- There is no longer any need to worry about lost, duplicated, or worn-out traditional keys
