In December 2023, the new Children and Youth Mental Health Center of the Children's Clinical University Hospital officially opened its doors, designed to meet modern standards. The inpatient department of the center includes 20 single-patient rooms and four observation rooms.
Design & Functional Requirements:
For this project, we supplied fittings for all aluminum, wooden, and metal interior doors and installed a Masterkey system. The solutions used feature high load resistance, meeting all construction requirements and the project’s functional needs.
The biggest challenge of this project was personal safety – particularly for the most vulnerable members of society: children. The unique technical task was to equip doors in accordance with the requirements of treating patients with mental health disorders, taking into account the increased risk of suicide or self-harm attempts, as well as the need to balance panic route requirements with the potential for deliberate misuse by patients.
Solutions applied:
For the first time in this project, we installed FSB Anti-Ligature series handles and knobs, minimizing the risk of the hardware being used as attachment points for self-harm, reducing deliberate injury risks, and controlling door-holding to prevent unauthorized staff access.
In panic routes the electrical strikes Serie Eff-Eff 332, were installed and integrated with the UATS fire safety system. These fittings ensure controlled use of evacuation routes while preventing unauthorized exits from the psychiatric ward.
The installed Wilka STR Masterkey system optimizes mechanical locking and key organization to the maximum extent.
