The "New Hanza" office building is an energy-efficient A+ class office project in Latvia. The development team at Pillar has achieved the highest level of building energy efficiency among all office buildings in Riga and has also received the BREEAM Excellent certification..

A clear vision for the desired energy efficiency has been crowned with recognition from architecture and construction professionals. The "New Hanza" office building has received several awards: in the Baltic international competition "Sustainability in Architecture, Construction, and Design", as well as in "The Best Building of the Year in Latvia 2023" – first place in the "BIM Object" category and second place in the "Public New Bulding" category.

Project Technical Assignment:

The key requirement for this project: to meet all technical and functional demands with sustainable solutions, while maintaining a consistent design style.

The project’s biggest challenge was rather unusual: during the construction process, a significant design flaw was discovered – the originally approved and already installed silver-colored door closers did not fit the overall design concept. A solution had to be found to make these silver closers black without creating disproportionate costs for the client. To achieve this, we supplied and installed black cover cases for the existing silver-colored closers, ensuring the desired visual appearance.

Solution applied:

The core of the handle design is formed by Dieckmann RIVA 136 handles, used for all types of doors – both those without special requirements and fire-resistance/emergency doors in compliance with EN 179 standards. VThe unified handle design is stylistically complemented by pull handles DIAMANTEK K4K, as well as ARES 136 handles for framed dootrs.

The project extensively used the key-alike cylinder system, supplying cylinders for specific zones that can be operated with a single key. This reduced the number of unique keys required and simplified the organization of mechanical door locking.
