The building of the old Kuldīga hospital at Liepājas Street 31, after reconstruction, has become a modern education center housing the Kuldīga Technology and Tourism Technical School. The renovated building has been supplemented with two new volumes, combining both historic and modern elements. New, functional spaces for vocational education have been integrated, where students attend practical classes in woodworking and food technology.
The reconstruction project of the Kuldīga Technology and Tourism Technical School’s Technology Center, carried out by architect Liene Griezīte’s studio and the architectural firm "Gints un Kolēģi," received the Special Recognition from the international jury of the Latvian Architects’ Annual Award 2024.
At the Kuldīga Technical School site, SB UN PARTNERI supplied door hardware and installed the Masterkey system..
Project Technical Assignment:
For projects of this type, door equipment is expected to endure heavy use and possible rough handling. At the same time, since the project is funded by taxpayers, the solutions must maintain a balance of cost-effectiveness.
Solutions used:
Inside the building, durable solutions suitable for heavy-use facilities were implemented – Dieckmann RIVA 103 stainless steel handles, BMH 450 heavy duty locks and WILKA STR Masterkey system, designed for long service life as well as easy maintenance and upkeep.
The building is located in the historic center of Kuldīga and holds the status of a Cultural Heritage Monument. Beautifully restored exterior doors are fitted with made-in-Latvia security handles that combine the design requirements of preserving cultural heritage with modern technical demands, featuring a construction that withstands high usage loads.
