Opened as a gift for the faculty’s 60th anniversary, the new building of the RTU Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology offers a modern environment for study and research, featuring well-equipped laboratories, a research centre, computer rooms, and spacious, bright lecture halls, with comfortable student lounge areas on every floor. The building won 2nd place in the Public New Building category at the 2021 Latvian Construction Annual Awards.
Technical assignment:
SB UN PARTNERI supplied fittings for wooden, metal, and aluminium doors and carried out part of the equipment installation, using sustainable, high-durability solutions in silver tones. A key challenge was developing doors that combined multiple specialised requirements – smoke extraction, access control, and evacuation functionality.
A Masterkey system and equipment for motorised smoke extraction for windows and doors were also installed by SB UN PARTNERI.
Solutions applied:
Combining all the requirements was quite a “tough nut to crack,” which was solved by using GEZE RWA motors, Eff-Eff electric strikes, Eco Schulte Panicbars, and specific BMH heavy-duty locks compatible with all the above-mentioned components, allowing the doors to be opened autonomously without physical human involvement.
After the project handover, the client found that the designed access control system for the auditoriums created usage difficulties. To resolve this, we supplied and installed Eff-Eff electromagnetic strikes with a mechanical day-mode switch, enabling free door access during working hours when access control is not required.
